mira, the aspect of future

Since she came to the mortal realm, Soraka found her place in a vastaya tribe living at the foot of Mount Targon. This tribe was isolated from the rest of Runeterra, and none of them knew the sad truth about their race : outside Mount Targon, vastayas are disappearing. Ionia's land, the place where most of them are living, are being drained of their magic, and the vastayas who lived there had to run away or faced a tragic fate.

But one day, a member of the tribe, a young fox vastaya, decided to follow Soraka in one of her trips to save the world. During her long journey, she traveled around Runeterra, and mostly met humans. She was curious and decided to stop following Soraka and to start searching for other vastayas.

But the truth was harsh for the young girl : in Ionia, she discovered stories about her people, and learned that they were disappearing. She heard rumours about some of them who were fighting to save their kind.

She was furious to discover that outside Mount Targon, people were cruel, and vastayas had suffered while she was living with her tribe. Full of her anger and determination to change the future of her people, she went back to Mount Targon.

But instead of joining her tribe again, she started the ascent of the mount. She knew what people said about it through Runeterra : the ascent is perilous, but those who reach the top have a chance to obtain the power to defend their values and their loved ones.

The ascent was long, and she thought her end had come numerous times, but she finally reached the top, and she was rewarded for her efforts. She was chosen to become the aspect of the future, a symbol of hope, guiding the livings to the best end.

Since that day, Mira left her tribe and Mount Targon. She travels through Runeterra, fighting her enemies with her mystic scythe, to save vastayas and to spread a message of hope to those who cross her way.

taiga, the ixtal protector

Taiga always lived in Ixtal, with her parents and her vastaya tribe. Even here, vastayas were rare, but the humans, used to live with magic, accepted them. However, vastaya tribes used to live far away from Ixaocan, as they were more comfortable living with their traditions than with the humans’ rules.

The young panther vastaya Taiga saw her happiness ending the day when Piltoverians invaded their territory. Piltover always tried to conquer Ixtal for its ressources. Their automated engines piloted by hextech power were grabbing ressources every week.

Taiga’s tribe was completely destroyed by one of those. People tried to escape and to protect what they had. Taiga’s parents told her to run. And she ran. She ran for an hour, then stopped to cry for some more hours.

When she decided to move again, she went back to her home. But fires were spreading everywhere, and no one from her tribe was around. Taiga staid here for some days, hoping to see her parents coming back. She was sad and scared.

But then, someone came. Taiga couldn’t believe her eyes : Qiyana, one of the Ixaocan’s princesses, was standing in front of her. Qiyana asked her about what happened here. She was furious against Piltover and promised to kill them all. She then asked Taiga to follow her to Ixaocan.

During the next years, Taiga learned to use elemental magic, the power of her nation, as well as fighting. She was pretty good at it thanks to her vastaya's strengths. And as she was learning, her fear of that dark day became some hate for Piltover.

When she was old enough, she decided to join the Ixaocan royal guard and to protect Ixtal from Piltover. Her exploits were recognized, and she’s now one of the commanders.

Her fight against Piltover changed the day when she met Erika, the Piltoverian vastaya. They are now fighting together to stop Piltover's invasion of Ixtal.

erika, the hextech vastaya

In Piltover, the best recognition is to see your experiment acclaimed by the other scientists. For this reason, everyone is always testing new things, in order to make the discover of the century.

One day, a scientist decided to create an energy source that would be even more powerful than hextech crystals. He decided to merge one of them with another powerful source of energy : vastaya essence. Vastayas are powerful creatures that live thanks to magic power. They can control it better than anyone else.

Vastaya essence was hard to find, as it is only obtainable with the cooperation of a vastaya, and they are trying to avoid humans and their destruction. But he found some, and then started to merge this enormous power with the one from an hextech crystal.

But the result wasn’t what he expected. The power was in fact enormous, but the crystal turned into ... a child. A fox vastaya child, with the power of hextech.

That creation didn’t give success to the scientist. In fact, he disappeared from Piltover, and rumors say that he was sent to Zaun. However, the child was kept. She ended up in a scientists family, where she was raised and learned to use her powers, but with the obligation to hide it.

Some years later, the young Erika was a powerful vastaya enhanced with hextech power. She was able to materialize hextech power in simple shapes, and had a really good connection with hextech crystals. Coupled with her natural strength of vastaya, she was an expert in running through the streets of Piltover and scaling on high buildings. Her parents gave her some hextech shoes so that she could run even faster and jump higher. She was exploring the city to discover new things and satisfy her curiosity.


But when she decided to discover what was outside Piltover, her meeting with the Ixtalian vastaya Taiga changed her vision of Piltover. She is now helping Taiga to stop Piltover's invasion, as well as trying to change Zaun's terrible situation.

Common story: The rebellion

As Taiga was scouting the jungle in order to stop a potential Piltover invasion, she was remembering the day when her family disappeared because of their engines. She promised herself to stop Piltover’s destruction, whatever the price was.

A sound on her left took her out of her thoughts. Using all her vastaya's strengths, she moved silently behind the sound. She found a young fox vastaya walking peacefully. Taiga first thought happily that she found one of her people, but the realized that the young vastaya's clothes were from Piltover.

Taiga was furious to see someone like her being allied with her enemies. Preparing some ice magic in her claws, she was ready to freeze her forever. Taiga jumped to the young girl and started her mortal attack. The girl saw it coming, and after a scared cry, she dodged the attack by running away with a speed that Taiga had never seen before.

Taiga’s surprise was as important as her enemy’s. Both girls stayed here, looking at each other with perplexity.

"-Who are you ? Are you crazy ?! Why are you trying to kill me ?! You don’t even know me !, yelled the young vastaya.
-But you are my enemy ! Why are you helping Piltover ? You’re a vastaya ! Don’t you care about your people dying out there ?
-What… what do you mean ? I’m born in Piltover and everyone there is really nice ! They all accepted me ! Why would they attack vastayas ?
-…You really don’t know ? They don’t especially attack vastaya, but they are taking all the ressources from Ixtal, and killing people on their way.
-That can’t be true ! Piltover would never …
-Are you really ignorant ? Don’t you know about Zaun ?
-Zaun ? Well.. I heard that name some times. But it is taboo out there.
-Zaun is the city under Piltover. It is destroyed by toxic gases produced by Piltover’s experiences and production. People down there are living with these gases, they all are sick because of that !
-Are…are you serious? Why would Piltoverians do that ?!
-Because they only think about their success. But well, if you don’t believe me, check by yourself.
-…You’re not going to kill me, in the end ?
-You’re just an ignorant. Go find the truth. I don’t have time to lose with this."

Taiga turned her back to the young girl and started leaving.

"-Wait .. but what am I supposed to do if that’s true ? And who are you ?
-Find it by yourself ! I’m not your mother ! My name is Taiga, and I’ll protect this place from Piltover’s invasion !"

Taiga left without adding a word.

Erika stayed here for a while, trying to understand what Taiga told her. She couldn’t believe it, but she felt that she had to find the truth about it. Her first expedition out the city turned out really strange. She couldn’t stop thinking about it on her way back home.

During the next days, Erika kept seeking for information about Zaun and Ixtal. But the subjects were real taboos, and it was hard for her to find what she wanted. She finally took the decision to visit Zaun by herself.

The way down to Zaun was easy to find once you know about it. Controls were lacking seriousness and she could easily find a way to the elevators. The descent was long and Erika was wondering how deep she was going.

But once the door opened, she found out all the answers to her questions. The atmosphere was strange, Erika couldn’t breathe correctly. People down there were looking tired and ill, but they didn’t look like caring about it.

Erika was furious about the truth. But she didn’t know what to do. She decided to go back to the place where she met Taiga, and started to wait. She waited for days before seeing the panther vastaya.

"-You’re here ? So you found out about Zaun and Ixtal. Are you furious? Piltover’s hidden face is scary. What are you going to do ?
-Help me please. And I’ll help you. Zaunians don’t deserve that. I wanna save them. And I’ll help you to stop our invasion as well. But I can’t do this on my own. I need help. You are strong and can fight them. I can explore the city. And I’m fast. That’s my only strength.
-Oh, the cute fox wanna stop Piltover ? How are you going to do that if the only thing you can do is running ?
-I could do more ! I just need to practice. You know, if a vastaya is living in Piltover, it’s because I’m born from their experiments. I am the fusion of an hextech crystal and vastaya essence. I could be more powerful.
-Oh …. But that’s interesting. How do you wanna save Zaun and Ixtal ?
-I will… start a rebellion. Zaunians would act if we ask them to. I hope... And Ixtal is ready to fight as well, right ?
-…Right. You’re funny. But I like your plan. Let’s do this ! I’ll be ready to help you.
-Erika.
-..What?
-That’s my name. Erika. You didn’t ask it last time.
-Oh..right. Nice to meet you Erika. Let’s stop Piltover together !"

This meeting between the two vastayas was the beginning of their story. Fighting next to each other, they started their rebellion against Piltover’s domination.
